Hybrid cloud has emerged as the new IT trend among healthcare organizations as per the findings of second annual Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) Report recently announced by cloud computing company Nutanix.
Increasing patient care demand has made digital transformation an inevitable need for healthcare organizations across the globe. As per the report, cloud migration is an ongoing trend in all industry verticals, with health care industry showing a 68% transformation to cloud. AI assistants with 44% and personalized health care with 52% was ranked as the leading IT trends that impacted cloud adoption in health care companies. Migrating to the cloud at the earliest is mandatory for healthcare companies, if they are to provide the most advanced care for patients.
More than half of the healthcare respondents considered compliance to regulations governing data storage as the top factor influencing future cloud model adoption within their companies. Most of them believed that security and efficiency of the cloud was more important than the budget issues.
Data security and compliance to regulations came up as the most important factor that decided the choice of a cloud with almost 29% up-voting the same. Only 16% of companies considered cost as a deciding factor for choosing their cloud service. But, nearly 60% cited hybrid cloud as the biggest influence on their future cloud deployment.
In the survey, hybrid cloud came up as the top cloud hosting trend among all industry professionals as it was cited as the most secure option by majority respondents. The percentage relying on hybrid cloud was even higher among healthcare professionals. When 33% of healthcare companies up-voted hybrid cloud it was 28% altogether from all industries combined. While 21% of healthcare pros ranked traditional on-premises, private hosting as the second most reliable option, only 7% considered public cloud as a secure cloud hosting solution.
The next three to five years will be crucial in the area of hybrid cloud hosting. Numerous healthcare companies have shared their plans of transforming to hybrid cloud by nearly 44% and decreasing traditional data center deployments by about 35%. While other industries are far ahead of healthcare industry in the case of hybrid cloud adoption, the coming years will see a huge migration of healthcare toward hybrid cloud as per the ECI reports.
